"Best Surprise": A New Single from The East Pointers

Juno Award winning band The East Pointers released their newest single “Best Surprise” on July 21, 2023. It was written by Tim Chaisson, Jake Charron, Colin MacDonald, and Carleton Stone and produced by Derek Hoffman.

The song has the East Pointers’ signature danceable hook, and stemmed from a 2021 conversation about the unpredictable nature of the human experience, and how we never know what is coming next, whether that is the chaotic nature of a global pandemic, a devastating loss, a strange curve-ball, or, indeed, the kismet of meeting someone who will change your life for the better.

“Best Surprise” is a joyful celebration of the latter, a mediation on love being discovered, happened upon, and arriving out of the blue. Tim Chaisson sings lead vocals with a flawless falsetto that will have you bopping around and singing along.

You can watch Tim and Jake perform an acoustic version of the song on the Rollo Bay Fiddle Grounds here:

In June Chaisson and Charron released the tune “Goolaholla,” which was written in Charron’s basement studio in the summer of 2021, and thus it includes banjo by the late great East Pointer Koady Chiasson. It was also produced by Derek Hoffman. The combination of fiddle, banjo, and guitar here has become both iconic and bittersweet to East Pointers fans, and it is on joyful, full display here. The term “Goolaholla” (Good Times!) was coined and adopted as a catchphrase by the Chaisson cousins and their High School buds in Souris, and Chaisson and Charron have renamed their Harvest Home Festival Goolaholla! Festival to honour the infectious spirit of Koady. You can listen to the song here

The Festival is coming to the Rollo Bay Fiddle Grounds in Souris, Prince Edward Island (Epekwitk) September 29th & 30th and the lineup so far includes The East Pointers, Mi’kmaq Legends, Rose Cousins, and Emma Memma (from The Wiggles!). For more information visit this website

The East Pointers will also be back in the Sobey Family Theatre at the Confederation Centre for the Arts in Charlottetown on December 16th at 7:30pm. Tickets are on sale for that concert now
