I found myself incredibly surprised, and also extraordinarily humbled, when I realized that not all of the wonderful people who frequent this blog are Canadian! Since I focus so exclusively on Canadian theatre and write, as I’m sure you’ve all noticed, with ceaseless passion for the championing of very specific Canadian artistic goals, it fills me with pride to realize that my voice is being heard outside the country I call home and reaching, I hope, understanding and sympathetic individuals in the United States and Internationally who are interested in reading about theatre in Canada. How glorious!
I love building bridges between various theatrical communities and I cherish the opportunity to meet performers, directors and playwrights from stages around the world and I am always incredibly excited when Canadian theatre artists have the opportunity to venture out beyond our borders and to make an International name for themselves (as long as they promise to come back to Canada eventually!). So, this blog is dedicated to all my readers who live in New York. I am excited to tell you that on June 5th, 2010 at 7:00pm and June 6th, 2010 at 9:30 you will have the incredible fortune to see Canadian Superstar Sharron Matthews perform at Joe’s Pub.
`SHE’S SAUCY. SHE’S SUBLIME. SHE’S SASSY AND SMART AND SUCCULENT AND A TINY BIT SCANDALOUS! SHE’S A SUPERSTAR! SHE IS SHARRON! But don’t just take my word for it. Check out her promotional video; scout around her YouTube site, read her blog, join her Facebook group and most importantly- invite yourself to what is sure to be the biggest party a girl from Hamilton, Ontario has ever hosted in New York with all the bells, all the whistles, all the glamour and the hilarity and the endearingly vivacious stories and songs that have been keeping Torontonians laughing till they cry and crying till they spittake for the past five years.
Book your tickets early- you don’t want to be disappointed! She was in Mean Girls with Tina Fey. She was in Hairspray with John Travolta. She was in The Music Man with Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth. She was in Show Boat with Elaine Stritch! You never know, people, they might all be there! You better be there too.
