Okay, Edmonton. Here’s some exciting news for you! From the ever-talented Farren Timoteo comes a brand new adaptation of everyone’s favourite Candyland tale: Hansel and Gretel! Timoteo and Jeff Unger have teamed to create this brand new musical presented by Alberta Opera Musical Theatre for Young People at the Varscona Theatre (10329 83 Avenue) December 4th to December 13th, 2009. “Run away with Hansel and Gretel and the tale of a brother and sister living in an impoverished homestead on the edge of the Black Forest. When Hansel and Gretel set off in search of a life more lavish, the soon-lost pair wanders for days among dark, tall trees. The children are delighted to find a candy trail leading to a radiant house built of sweets and pastries, where a Witch, disguised as a kind old woman, takes the tired, hungry children into her delicious home for a large feast. Before long, the children realize they’ve been lured into the Witch’s trap where she’ll keep them prisoner. Working together to escape, Hansel and Gretel long for the comfort and simple beauty of the home they left behind.” Starring: Jason Hardwick, Matt Van Boeyen, Robyn Wallis, musician Erin Craig. Set Design: Bryan Pollock. Costume Design: Deanna Finnman. Lighting Design: Daniela Masellis. Stage Management: Dawn Friesen & Crystal Oleksyn. Shows are at 7:00pm.
