On December 4th I went to see Cinderella at Neptune. The show started with Star Wars music and a screen that said “Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far Away”. It then went on to say it was really Cinderella. Jeremy Webb loves Star Wars, apparently.
I loved Samantha Walkes as Cinderella. Normally princesses are blonde and blue eyed and I liked that Neptune mixed it up. Samantha is a beautiful Cinderella. This Cinderella is not a super girly girl. As Prince Charmin says “She knows stuff”. Samantha is graceful and she is a really talented singer and dancer.
I like that Cinderella’s Dad was part of the story, he is normally left out. Michael-Lamont Lytle who plays Jim has an incredible voice and is super fumy.
Martha Irving is the perfect fairy godmother. She was funny and brought life to the stage. I really liked her wand and how she wasn’t yet an expert fairy godmother. I want to steal her shoes 🙂
Prince Charmin (like the toilet paper) played by Ryan Brown had wonderful stage presence and is hilarious. Most princes are sociable and love talking to women but Prince Charmin is awkward at the ball until he finds Cinderella. I like how they were awkward at first but that the more they talked the more they liked each other.
The step sisters were typical snotty teenage girls. Their costumes are silly and perfect for their characters. The sisters are always up to crazy antics
Andrew Prashad plays Boutons. His tap dancing was out of this world! He made me laugh especially when he was in the garden with Prince Charmin. He is in love with Cinderella but he is a good friend to the prince.
The ensemble worked really well as a team. They made the whole thing more real. They were skilled dancers and singers. I don’t know how they did all those quick changes! I especially liked “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and when they came rushing in to get the step sisters ready for the ball.
The set was gorgeous. It was like a story book came to life. I liked how in the ball scene is it slanted to make it look grand. The carriage in ACT One and the fire that shoots out of the carriage was epic. “This is Me” was my favourite song and Samantha sang it spectacularly. Her dress transforming into the ball gown during this song was incredible It really was magic,
I would definitely recommend going to see this with your family. The music is great and it is an incredible show and I am so glad I am seeing it twice!
